Kia Ora and welcome to the
Catlins Coast.
Situated off the beaten track on the
southern-most coast of South
Island,
New Zealand, The Catlins is a major
highlight of the Southern Scenic Route.
Winding
between Fortrose and Kaka Point, you will
travel through our beloved farmland, forest
and seascape. There are so many choices of
walking tracks and byways – take some, and
discover the sometimes peaceful, sometimes
savage treasures of The Catlins..

to view a detailed map of the Catlins.
You can rush through in two
hours or take several days. We recommend the
latter, and suggest many kinds of
accommodation all of which offer good
value and friendly hosts.
Whatever the weather, you
will find drama:
-
The Southern Ocean in the
teeth of a gale;
-
a miniature garden, a fern
bank dripping in the rain forest;
-
half a dozen sealions
playing or sleeping on the sand;
-
a yellow-eyed penguin
plodding home across petrified logs.
Explore and explore further. Talk to the locals, we love
to share our special place with visitors.
Help us keep our respect for
and enjoyment of visitors by observing the
Catlins Care Code.
Tatu te Whenua
Please leave the land
undisturbed.
