Ōwaka

Ōwaka means "Place of the Canoe".

Ōwaka is the main centre of the North Catlins area. The population is almost 400 and the town provides services to the largely farming community and visitors including the Catlins Area School, Playcentre, Medical Centre and volunteer first response units (fire, ambulance and Search and Rescue).
